This photo was taken outside Lone Pine, California, which is about an hour west of Death Valley NP. I was camping in the middle of nowhere, with Mt. Whitney as a backdrop. I found a small isolated dirt road that led from one boulder field after another. Then out of nowhere, I saw this painted rock. It was one of the most incongruous pieces of nature that I saw on the entire trip. While I in no way condone defacing nature, I have to admit that it still cracks me up to look at the photo. Would love to know what the artist was thinking.
